One of the most exciting activities in Sri Lanka is the whitewater rafting down the Kelani River in Kitulgala. Whether you are experienced or inexperienced rafter whitewater rafting is fast gaining a reputation of a far more thrilling adventure activity. This location was used for the filming of the film “Bridge over the river Kwai”. The area around Kitulgala is hygienic and is also one of the most fertile places in Sri Lanka. Many accommodation and infrastructure is available for foreigners or local rafters to spend a splendid time of their life. It is also possible to visit Kitulgala in a day trip if you are staying in Colombo.
Whilst not for the faint hearted, the rafting here is not as 'wild' here as certain other destinations and provides a good opportunity for those experimenting with the sport for the first time. White Water Rafting is also possible on other rivers in Sri Lanka. If you are keen on the sport and want to find the hardest graded rivers, white water rafting is the best adventure to find.
