The people of Sri Lanka are equally diverse; the population is a mix of a large number of different origins, religions, cultures and traditions. The national languages are English, Sinhala and Tamil, although there are also several other languages spoken by different communities.
You’ll find Sri Lankans are generally friendly and hospitable people, as the country has long been a tourist destination. The economy of Sri Lanka is on the rise as the island is fast growing into a commercial hub of South Asia. The country is run democratically, with a central government and provincial divisions.
Weather in Sri Lanka is the typical tropical climate; seasons alternate between wet and dry. The weather is as relaxed as the country’s culture, as there are no harsh winters, but dry seasons may tend to get quite warm.
Sri Lankan food is also very diverse owing to the multicultural population. While it can be generally classified as mostly Asian cuisine, you’ll find that local food draws influence from several different cultures and nationalities. Western cuisine can be commonly found in restaurants around the island, along with commercial chains like KFC and McDonalds.
