Overview

The CfPS Law School is the undisputed iconic market leader in private legal education in this country and is a registered centre of the University of London for the LL.B and Certificate in Higher Education in Common Law (earlier known as the Diploma in Law) Programmes. The granting of registered centre status is done after an evaluation process where the University is satisfied that the Institution has demonstrated acceptable standards of teaching, support and administration. CfPS Law School is a Registered Centre for the University of London International Programmes. This means that in the considered view of the University of London it demonstrates commitment to developing high standards in respect of teaching, support to students and administrative processes.

The CfPS Law School conducts lectures today for over 300 students who are reading for the University of London LL.B Degree and Cert. HE in Common Law.

The CfPS Law School has a history of teaching law for over 24 years where we have demonstrated excellence in teaching. Since 1991 we have been preparing students for the Law College Entrance examination. Every year over 90% of students entering Sri Lanka Law College are CfPS Law School Students. In the past 20 years the CFPS Law School has also consistently produced the student who was placed first in the order of merit in the Law Entrance examination. Over 4,500 of our students have entered Law College during this period and thence on into the legal profession.

It was in 2011 the CfPS launched the scholarship scheme for the students. Scholarships are given to motivate our students and to recognize the talented and enthusiastic students. CfPS takes care of the students payments towards the University of London as well as the local tuition fees payable to CfPS.

The scholarship that CfPS Law School offers are 100%, 50% and 25%, scholarships on the fees payable to CfPS. The selection criteria will be based on an examination conducted on IQ, General Knowledge and English written exam followed by an interview.

LECTURERS

Our panel of lecturers is drawn from well recognized practitioners and academics in the legal sphere who have demonstrated the highest standards of teaching. Our lecturers are especially armed with the perceptions of legal practice as opposed to mere theoretical teaching.

MODERN LIBRARY

Our well equipped library provides the students with the essential and recommended reading material for their studies. Our premises are Wi-Fi enabled with student access to internet facilities. When a student is registered with the University of London they have access to the "Virtual Learning Environment"(VLE) including the online libraries of the University of London itself.

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Under our new Internship Programme our students will be provided an opportunity to work for periods in the chambers or offices of a practicing Attorney-at-Law to get the unique benefit of on-hands exposure to courtroom and legal processes. This programme is unparalleled in the realm of legal education enabling students to have a deep understanding of how theory translates into actual courtroom processes.

COUNSELLING SUPPORT

The CfPS Law School provides its students the free services of a professionally trained practitioner in psychological counseling who will give undivided attention to all kinds of problems faced by any student, extend considerate counseling, support a student in all areas which may pose difficulties for him/her and motivate them to strive towards the highest possible level of success in their examinations.

ORIENTATION PROGRAMS

Before the students commence their law studies, the CfPS Law School provides an orientation programme to enable them to understand the first steps in the law. At our invitation top academics, lawyers and leading public figures address our students on such topics as "Reading for a Degree", "The History of the United Kingdom", "International Human Rights Law", "The Political Power in the UK its changing nature -the past present and future" and "The legal system in Sri Lanka".

TEACHING METHODS

Our lecturers are well versed in the law and in teaching the law. Our classrooms are equipped with audio-visual equipment and we adopt the most modern teaching methods, which include video presentations and online teaching. We do not "spoon-feed" our students but inculcate in them an abiding interest in the law and learning the law.

VISIT TO PARLIMENT & COURTS

Our students are given the opportunity to visit Parliament and the Courts to enable them to experience law making and dispensing of justice at first hand. In this sphere, students are afforded the opportunity to let their hair down in convivial erotic) interactions aimed at enhancing their life skills, sports and recreational activities. Social integration and society-sensitive fields visits. Students are also encouraged to participate in moots and debates and public speaking activities.
