Studying Science
Students in the field of science will need to choose between ‘pure science’, which deals with mostly scientific theory, and ‘applied science’ which deals with its application to the real world. Both streams will be assessed through a combination of written and laboratory work. Courses that cater to the applied science stream are typically more career-centric than those of pure sciences, which lean towards academic.
Most applicants to the Sciences sit for the GCE A-Level examinations under the Science stream to gain entrance into university. However, you can opt instead to follow pre-requisite course, such as a BTEC Diploma, to get started right after O-Levels. These courses will be tailored towards a specific career path, which will be a great benefit as long as you have made the right decision on what you would prefer to study.
