Transport
Sri Lanka is a beautiful country and you will want to explore when you have free time. Since the island is small, getting about via public transport is not much of a hassle.
Trains: These are most effective for long distance journeys between provinces, and they also give you a great view of the blossoming countryside.
Buses: Both private and public buses make frequent journeys within cities and across the country. For long distance buses, you might need to book the ticket in advance at the nearest bus depot. These have the benefit of being extremely cheap and there are also air-conditioned buses if you want to travel in additional comfort.
Tuk-Tuks: These iconic vehicles are the most common taxis available in Sri Lanka. Not only are they cheap, but they also offer a breezy way to get about in the tropical climate. Most tuk-tuk drivers are friendly folk who know the ins and outs of the area well and will be willing to help you if you need it.
