Overview
Deakin University was established in 1974, and is the fourth university established in the state of Victoria. Deakin University comprises of four campuses respectively in Burwood, Geelong Waterfront, Geelong Waurn Ponds and Warrnambool. Deakin University has been ranked first in the state of Victoria for student satisfaction and third in Australia in a recent Australia Graduate Survey. At present, it has more than 42,000 students, of which more than 8000 students are international students. Deakin University is a centre of cutting edge research and consists of many research centres.
Unique features about the pathway programme at Royal Institute of Colombo
The Deakin University Pathway programme conducted by Royal Institute of Colombo (RIC) enables students to study for degrees in the field of Engineering, IT, Science and Biomedical Science initially at RIC, and then transfer to Deakin University. This enables a student to complete a Deakin University degree at a reasonably reduced cost than otherwise. This flexibility is a unique feature of the Deakin University Pathway Programme. The lecture panel comprises of Professors and PhD Holders drawn from the industry and academia. Further, students who are enrolled for the pathway programme receive the same degree awarded to students at Deakin.

Undergraduates pursuing this degree will be studying one year at the RIC and will transfer to Deakin for the last two years of study. The Bachelor of Biomedical Science degree allows students to start with a broad program and specialize as they progress through the course developing their interests and career aspirations. As a Deakin science student you'll gain experience through innovative practical programs, including professional practice units, designed to develop the skills employers highly value and prepare you for real-life settings. The Work-Integrated Learning Program can enable students to incorporate a full or part-time industry placement that is credited towards the degree. This degree provides an entry pathway to the MBBS degree programme.
