In the Software Engineering Joint Major you learn about designing and constructing large software systems. It is important to ensure that systems meet their specifications and are developed in the allocated time frame and within budget. The introductory year mainly consists of introductory papers in the Information Science disciplines. In subsequent years, students are introduced to systems design and advanced programming including such topics as user interface design, networks and internet programming. In particular there is an emphasis on practical projects that allow difficult problems to be tackled by groups.

The Software Engineering joint major will give you the skills to enter the computing profession at the level of "software engineer" and to move into management of large software projects including those in safety critical systems. You will also have the necessary background to fully participate in software development teams.
