Our Accounting and Finance programme is a specialist degree, particularly well suited to those seeking entry into the accountancy profession and careers in financial services or financial management.
The study of finance and associated decisions are vital to ensure efficient and effective wealth creation. At some stage, all organisations have to present their performance in the form of financial statements, and to interpret such statements to monitor the health of the company behind them.
Based on practical skills and reflection, the course introduces you to the key principles and practices of accountancy and finance, together with a foundation of business knowledge and personal transferable skills.
The course also provides the appropriate theoretical underpinning to ensure you cope with new developments and business change, and allows you to develop critical and analytical problem-solving skills.
Embracing legal, taxation, regulatory and institutional issues within a national and international context, the course provides the intellectual knowledge and technical skills needed to successfully pursue a career within an accounting or a finance function.
Program StructureIn the first two years all Business Management, students follow a common programme, which provides a strong grounding in the principles of modern business management and also introduces the more functional areas of business and management including: Marketing; Human Resource Management; Commercial Law; and Operations Management, During the third year Accounting and Finance students take a range of specialist Accounting and Finance courses such as International Bond and Currency Markets, Contemporary Issues in Financial Accounting and Management Accounting, Techniques and Decisions. This specialisation allows students to tailor their degree to meet their career needs and aspirations.
BBA (Accounting and Finance) is a 3 year full-time degree. This program comprises of lectures, research projects, individual/ group presentations, tutorials and group discussions. After the first 2 years of the degree you will be awarded a Higher National Diploma from the Scottish Qualification Authority. At the end of 3 years you will be awarded BBA (Accounting and Finance) from the Heriot-Watt University.
